World Food Programme: Millions of People in Afghanistan Struggle to Obtain Food
Bayan News – As winter approaches, the World Food Programme (WFP) has stated that in the upcoming season, many Afghan families will not have access to the food they need.
This UN-affiliated organization, in a report released on Sunday (December 1), added that one in every four families struggles to obtain sufficient food.
According to the WFP report, millions of people across Afghanistan are currently fighting to secure food.
The organization mentioned that it requires $680 million over the next six months to fund its operations and provide aid to remote areas of Afghanistan.
The report noted that the WFP was able to provide monthly food assistance to one million people during the first half of this year, but 11 million others in need have remained without aid.
Highlighting the rise in poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan, the WFP emphasized that the economic situation of poor families in the country has deteriorated further.
Meanwhile, the organization announced yesterday that it has provided cash and food assistance to over ten million people in Afghanistan.
