Health Institutes Closed to Girls

Bayan News – On Monday, December 2, the interim government’s Ministry of Public Health issued an order suspending girls’ education in health institutes.

In a statement, the ministry announced that, effective Tuesday and until further notice, classes for female students have been suspended across Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Public Health further emphasized that girls should refrain from attending health institutes.

Health institutes were the last remaining educational centers for female students.

Last year, the Ministry of Public Health had allowed girls who graduated from 12th grade to participate in entrance exams for health institutes in ten provinces of Afghanistan.

In these institutes, girls were primarily trained in midwifery and nursing.
