2024; A “Ruthless” Year for Afghan Children

Bayan News – The organization Save the Children has stated that 2024 will be a ruthless year for Afghan children.

On Saturday (December 14), the organization released a video on the platform X, highlighting that the ongoing economic crisis, successive droughts, and floods have left Afghan children without adequate access to food.

Save the Children, expressing its support for Afghan children, has called on countries to provide aid to save them from malnutrition.

According to United Nations statistics, approximately four million children, newborns, and breastfeeding mothers have suffered from malnutrition this year. With the reduction in international aid, many have been deprived of access to basic assistance.

António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, presented his quarterly report to the UN Security Council on Thursday, revealing that out of the $3.3 billion allocated for humanitarian aid, only around $800 million has been made available to the organization.

The UN Secretary-General has urged countries to commit to providing financial aid to assist Afghanistan and prevent a humanitarian crisis.

According to Guterres, more than 23 million people in Afghanistan will need assistance in 2024.
