UNHCR Establishes a Carpet Weaving Center for 100 Women in Balkh
Bayan News – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced the establishment of a carpet weaving center for women in Balkh province.
On Friday (December 27), UNHCR released a video stating that this new carpet processing and weaving center, supported by UNHCR, will assist 100 women in earning a livelihood through weaving skills while working in more comfortable conditions.
According to the organization, 100 women are engaged in carpet weaving at the center daily. Additionally, it provides a vital space for women to come together and support their families.
Some women in the video expressed that the center has created a suitable workplace for them and that they can now earn income through their activities there.
Bibi Naseema, featured in the video, said: “Previously, I used to weave carpets at home, but I didn’t have a proper place for weaving. As a woman, I can now support my family through my work.”
The center also includes an area for carpet processing, where woven carpets are prepared for direct sale to buyers.
UNHCR added that this initiative helps people sell their products at higher prices and encourages the strategic use of profits for local development, benefiting the entire community.
