Start of a new academic year in Afghanistan; Elimination of educational restrictions for girls
Bayan News – As the new academic year approaches in Afghanistan, the United States has once again called for the reopening of girls’ schools.
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, recently stated in a press briefing that Afghan girls should not be deprived of education any longer.
The spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State emphasized that Washington is seeking every opportunity to urge the Taliban to allow girls’ education and respect their rights.
With the start of the new solar year, the educational restrictions on girls in Afghanistan by the Taliban have been in place for approximately three years. Despite international pressures, the Taliban have been unwilling to reopen schools for girls.
The continuation of educational restrictions has had detrimental consequences in terms of mental and psychological well-being and economic difficulties for girls, leading many families to resort to migration in order to continue their daughters’ education.
Although the Taliban claim not to be opposed to girls’ education and state that they are working to provide a secure environment for education, there has been no news of the resumption of girls’ education after three years.
