Bayan News – Ned Price, deputy spokesperson for the US State Department, says that if restrictions against women and girls are not lifted, the Taliban will not gain legitimacy.
He said on Thursday (April 18) in a press briefing that if Afghan women and girls are excluded from participation in society, the Taliban will continue to be isolated.
This US State Department official reiterated that ensuring women’s and girls’ rights is a key principle of US policy towards Afghanistan.
After coming to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban imposed severe restrictions on women and girls; including bans on education, banning women from working in government offices, and social freedoms.
These Taliban policies have led to no country recognizing the current government for three years.
