UN: Over 15 million people in Afghanistan will face food insecurity in 2024
Bayan News – The UN’s Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan says that most people in Afghanistan do not have the ability to secure food and shelter.
Indrika Ratwatte, on Thursday (April 18) in a statement published on the X platform, added that in the current year, 15.8 million people in Afghanistan will face food crises and insecurity.
In her statement, she wrote about the critical situation in Afghanistan that most people in Afghanistan are unable to secure basic necessities of life such as food and shelter.
This UN official emphasized UNAMA’s commitment to the principles of human rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment in light of the Taliban’s restrictions against Afghan women and girls.
These statements come as the recent Taliban leader has assured the people of Afghanistan in a message that the country’s economic situation will improve.
At the same time, however, the United Nations is concerned that donor countries to Afghanistan are not interested in allocating humanitarian budget for the country.
According to UN officials, over three billion dollars are needed to provide humanitarian assistance, but only three percent of the required budget has been secured.
