Bayan News – Following the intensification of the Israeli army’s attacks on the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, the United Nations Security Council held an emergency meeting on Wednesday evening (May 29) in Kabul time.
The Permanent Representative of Russia to the Council said that the conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in the killing of more than 36,000 Palestinians, which is the largest loss of life since World War II.
He criticized Israel’s bloody attacks, saying that Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on the Gaza Strip violated the resolutions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly, and have now turned the city of Rafah into a bloody and horrific place.
The Permanent Representative of Russia to the Security Council stated that in the current situation, at least one million civilians, including women and children, have taken refuge in Rafah, yet in Israel’s daily attacks, civilians including UN personnel are being killed.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Representative of France to the UN Security Council clearly stated that Paris demands an immediate ceasefire and a halt to Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip, as the attacks of the Israeli army have led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
This French official at the Security Council meeting called on Israel to immediately open the Rafah crossing to provide humanitarian aid to civilians, and not to create any obstacles.
The Permanent Representative of France also criticized the attacks by Hamas, saying that her country condemned the October 7 attack and remains opposed to attacks inside Israel.
She also said that France is concerned about the far-reaching consequences of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, which could engulf the entire region.
According to the French representative, the UN Security Council has passed three resolutions in the past eight months to prevent the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and the parties must respect these resolutions so that humanitarian aid can be provided to civilians.
The French representative also reiterated that her country supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the UN Security Council should act quickly in this regard.
