OCHA: Mine explosions in Afghanistan have killed 300 people in the past six months

Bayan News – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Afghanistan says that 300 civilians have been killed due to mine explosions in the country.

OCHA said in a message on Monday (July 22) that these casualties occurred in various parts of Afghanistan over the past six months of 2024.

According to the UN agency, most of the victims are children, 50% of whom were killed while playing with unexploded ordnance.

OCHA further stated that the remnants of war from 1989 to the present have claimed the lives of 45,000 people in Afghanistan.

This office has also warned that the lack of financial resources in 2024 for the clearance of unexploded ordnance will put the lives of 3.4 million people at risk.

However, in the past month, several children were killed in Kandahar, Parwan and Ghazni provinces due to the explosion of mortar shells.
