U.S. Special Representative calls for Iran to be held accountable over allegations of “shooting” Afghan citizens

Bayan News – Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghan Women and Human Rights, has called for a full and transparent investigation into reports of Afghan citizens being shot in the border region of Saravan, Iran.

On Friday morning (October 18), Amiri posted on the platform X, expressing deep concern over the reports and stating that a comprehensive investigation is needed.

The U.S. official wrote: “Those fleeing severe repression must be treated with dignity and humanity, not with further violence and abuse.”

In the past week, there have been widespread reports of dozens of Afghan citizens being shot by Iranian border guards while attempting to cross into Iran illegally at the Saravan border in Sistan and Baluchistan.

Although the Iranian government has denied these reports, the incident has taken place, and the bodies of the victims have been transported to Herat province in western Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the Taliban government has appointed a delegation, led by the Deputy Minister of Interior, to investigate the matter.

This incident has sparked widespread national and international reactions.
