Bayan News – The Chinese ambassador in Kabul has announced that starting in December, China will exempt Afghan export goods from taxes.
This decision was discussed between Zhao Xing, the Chinese ambassador in Kabul, and Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Taliban’s deputy prime minister for political affairs. The Taliban’s official statement confirmed that the deputy prime minister met with the Chinese ambassador on Thursday (October 24).
The Chinese ambassador wrote on the X platform that Afghanistan’s export rate to China was 11.5% this year, and it is expected to increase to 25% next year.
Zhao Xing also mentioned that China plans to open a new economic corridor with Afghanistan via Tajikistan, with a tripartite meeting between Tajikistan, China, and Afghanistan scheduled to discuss investments in this project.
According to the statement from the Afghan presidential palace, the Chinese ambassador added that efforts are underway to activate the Wakhan Corridor as well.
Mawlawi Abdul Kabir expressed gratitude to China for the tax exemption on Afghan exports, adding that this measure would positively impact Afghanistan’s trade and economy. He also called for similar actions from other neighboring countries.
The Taliban’s deputy prime minister referred to the Wakhan route as a significant development in the two countries’ relations and stated that, once completed, it would increase economic exchanges and trade.
However, according to published reports, the Taliban announced late last year that a 50-kilometer road project in Wakhan, Badakhshan, which would connect Afghanistan to China, would be completed soon. Yet, nearly a year later, no updates on its completion have been provided.
