The U.S. Department of State Reacts to the Ban on Girls’ Education in Medical Institutions

Bayan News – Following the interim government’s ban on girls’ education in medical institutions, the U.S. Department of State reacted on Wednesday, December 11, condemning the decision.

In a statement, the Department described the prohibition of girls attending medical institutions as an unjustifiable attack on their access to education.

According to the statement: “This directive is the latest in a series of efforts that endanger the rights and lives of Afghan women and girls.”

The Department of State reiterated that Washington remains steadfast in supporting the rights of Afghan women and girls, standing alongside the people of Afghanistan to advocate for their full, equal, and meaningful participation in all areas of society.

The statement added: “The international community must be united and vocal in condemning these actions and supporting the people of Afghanistan, particularly women and girls.”

This comes after the interim government issued a surprise decision last week prohibiting women and girls from attending medical institutions.
