UN: Forced Deportation of Afghan Citizens from Iran Intensifies

Bayan News – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that the return of Afghan citizens from Iran has significantly increased this year.

On Saturday, December 21, the agency released a video on the platform X, stating that the highest number of Afghan citizens were expelled from Iran in September of this year.

According to UNHCR, the return of migrants should be voluntary and conducted in safety and dignity.

However, the agency emphasized that it provides cash and protection assistance to returning migrants and continues its support in the areas to which they return.

The UNHCR stated that it will continue its efforts to ensure that returnees receive the support and services necessary for living and thriving.

Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have announced plans to deport approximately two million undocumented migrants from Iran by the end of this solar year.

According to unofficial statistics, there are currently around six million Afghan migrants residing in Iran, many of whom have migrated in the past three years.
