Protest by a group of women in front of the Herat governor’s office
Bayan News – On Wednesday (August 9), a group of women staged a protest in front of the governor’s office in Herat, western Afghanistan.
The women were protesting against forced displacement, claiming that the government intends to relocate them and demolish their homes, which were built on government land.
“Enough injustice!” “Justice, justice!” “No more oppression and injustice!” were the slogans chanted by the protesting women in front of the Herat governor’s office.
They stated that they had built their homes on these lands at their own expense and have been living in this area (Gand 11) for years. However, the government has decided to evict them from this area.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Herat governor’s office responded to the protest, stating to the media that forced displacement is incorrect, and the Commission for Prevention of State Land Grab is working on all cases.
Over the past two years, similar reports have been published from various parts of Afghanistan, indicating that the Commission for Prevention of State Land Grab has taken action in certain areas.
The commission has announced that thousands of acres of state land that had been illegally seized have been returned to the government.
