Special Rapporteur Calls for Release of Human Rights Activists in Afghanistan

Bayan News – Richard Bent, the special rapporteur of the United Nations on the human rights situation in Afghanistan, has said that he met with Sohail Shaheen, the head of the political office of the Islamic Emirate in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

He wrote on his Twitter platform last night (December 11) that in this meeting, discussions were held regarding women’s rights, in particular girls’ education, and the rights of children.

The special rapporteur of the United Nations added that in the meeting with Sohail Shaheen, he called for the release of human rights activists from the captivity of the Islamic Emirate.

Meanwhile, the head of the political office of the Islamic Emirate in Qatar has also stated that in the meeting with Bent, human rights reports should be consistent with the realities in Afghanistan and maintain neutrality.

According to Shaheen, this meeting also addressed the measures taken by the interim Kabul government for the welfare of widowed women, orphans, and disabled individuals.

However, in recent months, some women activists have been detained by the forces of the Islamic Emirate due to their protests.
