Bayan News – Hamid Karzai, the former President of Afghanistan, welcomed the adoption of the Security Council resolution and the appointment of a special representative for Afghanistan.
The former President of Afghanistan stated in a statement on Monday afternoon (January 1st) that he welcomes Security Council Resolution 2721, which emphasizes respect for the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and national unity of Afghanistan.
In Mr. Karzai’s statement, it is mentioned, “As stated in this resolution and the independent assessment report by the United Nations Secretary-General, Hamid Karzai considers national consensus and the representation of the will of the people as the way to achieve peace and lasting stability in the country, and he considers the education of the country’s children, both girls and boys, and the participation of women in all aspects of society as a guarantee for the progress and prosperity of the country.”
He emphasizes to the global community that the key to overcoming challenges and achieving lasting peace and stability lies in the hands of the people of Afghanistan.
The former President of Afghanistan also called on the caretaker government in Kabul to strive for unity and consensus in order to bring calm and prosperity to the country and to secure Afghanistan’s rightful place in the international order.
It should be noted that the United Nations Security Council recently adopted a resolution regarding Afghanistan, in which the appointment of a special representative for the country has been proposed.
The adoption of this resolution has been met with opposition from the caretaker government in Kabul and welcomed by opposition political groups to the Taliban.
