Guterres: Gaza and Ukraine conflicts have “fatally” undermined the credibility of the Security Council

Bayan News – Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, says that the lack of a clear position by the Security Council regarding the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine has fatally undermined the credibility of the Council.

Guterres, in his remarks at the opening of the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on Monday (February 26), emphasized the widespread violations of human rights around the world and highlighted that under international law, mass punishment and hostage-taking are considered crimes.

Guterres added that the lack of a clear position by the Security Council regarding Gaza and Ukraine has fatally undermined the credibility of the Council.

The UN Secretary-General stated that the world must reaffirm its responsibilities towards human rights laws and hold violators accountable, saying, “The Security Council needs a serious review of its composition and working methods.”

According to Guterres, the all-out Israeli attack on Rafah will be the final nail in the coffin of humanitarian aid programs.
