First Transit Train from Afghanistan Stopped in Iran
Bayan News – Iranian media reports that the first transit train from Afghanistan was stopped on Sunday (April 20) on Iranian soil and was not allowed to continue towards Turkey.
According to ILNA, this transit train was carrying 1,100 metric tons of mineral stone from Afghanistan and had arrived at the Ruznak railway station in Iran, en route to Turkey.
This was the first shipment of Afghan talc to be transported through Iran to Turkey.
The report states, “While the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and the Railway Company emphasize the importance of rail transit in the country, and Meidad Salehi, the CEO of the Railway Company, claims that increasing rail transit is a top priority in their plans, it is said that for unknown reasons, the first transit train and the first official crossing from Khaf-Herat railway station at Ruznak station were halted, and Iran did not provide a locomotive for the train to continue its journey.”
An informed source told the Iranian media outlet that the matter is being pursued, but the reason for not allowing the train to pass is likely financial issues.
The interim Taliban government and the authorities of the Islamic Republic have not officially commented on this matter.
