Kabulov: The Disintegration of Afghanistan Will Have Negative Consequences

Bayan News – Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan, says that the disintegration of Afghanistan will have negative consequences for the entire region.

He made these remarks on Saturday (June 1) in an interview with the TV channel “Russia 24”; however, he did not elaborate further on how he arrived at this position.

After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, some political currents opposed to the Taliban who are active outside the country had raised the issue of Afghanistan becoming federalized.

This Russian diplomat also, while referring to the removal of the Taliban from the list of prohibited groups, emphasized that it is still too early to discuss this further.

He also addressed the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan, stating that while the number of ISIS members was 10 to 12 thousand during the American presence, this figure has now decreased to three thousand under the Taliban.

Kabulov noted that the Taliban cannot eradicate ISIS, as this group has the financial support of foreign countries.

Recently, senior Russian officials have made different statements regarding Afghanistan.

Yesterday, the Russian Defense Minister said at a security meeting in Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, that Afghanistan under Taliban control has become a source of instability in Central Asia.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister has also called on the Taliban to commit to forming an inclusive government.
