Russia’s Foreign Ministry: Contact with the Taliban is Important for Moscow’s Interests

Bayan News – Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that contact with the Taliban is important for the country’s national interests and also for the fight against terrorism.

She made these statements on Sunday (June 9) to the TASS news agency and said that some bloggers and journalists are reacting nervously to the fact that Russia is in contact with the Taliban.

The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry added: “Apparently, those who write about these topics don’t realize that the solution to challenges like the fight against drug trafficking, terrorism and organized crime, in fact, requires contact.”

This official from the Russian Foreign Ministry considered it important to strengthen cooperation with the Taliban in the interests of this country’s national interests.

Zakharova, referring to the removal of the Taliban’s name from the list of terrorist organizations, emphasized that this matter is under review.
