Shia Muslims in Herat Launched a Protest Caravan Against the Remarks of a Taliban Official
Bayan News – Based on video footage circulated on social media, followers of Ahl-e-Bayt in Herat province, in response to the restrictions and in protest against the recent remarks of a Taliban official, launched a protest caravan in the city of Herat and chanted “Labbayk ya Imam Hussain”.
This protest caravan patrolled the streets of Herat city in the middle of last night (July 11) and with this protest action, they showed their abhorrence and opposition to the restrictions and the statements of the head of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department.
The released video footage shows that in the middle of the night, hundreds of vehicles of mourners of Imam Hussain were moving on the streets of Herat city with the hoisting of mourning flags.
Simultaneously, some residents of Herat province said that following the tensions between the Imam Hussain mourners and the Taliban, the city of Herat has taken on a military atmosphere.
According to the residents of this province, the Shia people of Herat consider the Taliban’s restrictions as political pretexts, and for this reason, the level of dissatisfaction of the Shia people towards the Taliban has increased.
This protest action of the Shias was launched after Ahmad Allah Mutaqi, the head of the Herat Information and Culture Department, in a meeting with the Shia scholars of this province, called the Ashura ceremony a “heresy” and said that they are preventing political and foreign heresies.
This Taliban official added that there are political heresies in the Ashura ceremony that are not present in the Quran, and such things should be avoided.
The joint meeting of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Herat with the Shia scholars was held regarding ensuring the security of the Ashura ceremony, and this Taliban official stressed that based on the responsibilities, the ceremony must be held in complete security.
