Taliban: Concerns about the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan are a campaign for Western countries

Bayan News – Zabiullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Taliban government, described the concerns of Western countries regarding ISIS’s widespread existence in Afghanistan as baseless and propaganda.

The Taliban spokesperson made these statements on the evening of Friday (August 9) in response to comments made by Vladimir Voronkov, the head of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism.

This UN official warned yesterday, in presenting a report, that the core of ISIS is growing in certain parts of Afghanistan.

Voronkov mentioned that the Khorasan branch of ISIS had improved its financial and logistical capabilities last month, and recruitment for this group is ongoing.

In relation to these concerns, the Taliban spokesperson wrote on platform X that their forces have been seriously combating the phenomenon of ISIS in Afghanistan and have inflicted significant damage.

Mujahid wrote: “Moreover, the entire geography of Afghanistan is under the complete control of the Islamic Emirate (Taliban), and no uncontrolled foreign or domestic group is permitted to operate.”

He further clarified: “Despite the security, stability, and strong security forces in Afghanistan, expressing concern about the presence and activities of ISIS or other groups is a type of campaign against them that must be stopped, and efforts to undermine and confuse the public perception should not take place.”

The head of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism had requested in his report to the Security Council that they unite to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a center of terrorism again.

This UN official also warned that despite counter-terrorism efforts, ISIS continues to resist and persist, posing a threat of external attacks from this group.
