American media: Republicans investigate the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan

Bayan News – Some American media outlets have reported, citing their reliable sources, that the Republican Party is attempting to expand investigations regarding the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

According to the Washington Post, American sources have stated that as the 2024 presidential elections in the U.S. approach, they are working to broaden the investigation into the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, while Donald Trump, the Republican candidate in these elections, is trying to use this issue as a central theme of his campaign.

This American media outlet reported on Saturday (September 7) that the Republican Party, particularly the Congressional Foreign Affairs Committee, is working to obtain more documents regarding the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan.

As per the report, the Foreign Affairs Committee, which was expected to have completed its investigation by now, has also intensified its efforts to engage with at least two key figures from the Biden administration: Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, who was summoned by the committee this week, and Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor to the White House.

On the other hand, James Adams, a Pentagon spokesperson, added to reporters: “We are not aware of official Congressional requests for further testimony from them or other military personnel.”

Additionally, White House officials have stated in a release that the Biden administration has taken extraordinary steps to cooperate with the investigation, including making senior officials available for hearings, providing briefings to lawmakers and their staff, and submitting dozens of pages of withdrawal documents.

This report comes amid widespread criticism of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan within the United States and as the country’s presidential elections are set to take place in the next 60 days.

According to published reports, Donald Trump, who is a leading candidate in the U.S. presidential elections, will have the issue of Afghanistan impact these elections.
