The Taliban’s Chamber of Commerce Asks the UK to Cooperate in Releasing Afghanistan’s Foreign Reserves
Bayan News – Yunus Mohmand, the deputy head of the Taliban’s Chamber of Commerce, requested London’s cooperation in releasing Afghanistan’s foreign reserves during a meeting with the chargé d’affaires of the British Embassy for Afghanistan.
This meeting, which took place on Monday (September 30), was held at the British Embassy for Afghanistan, based in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
During the meeting, Mr. Mohmand added that Afghanistan serves as a connecting point between South Asia and Central Asia, which could facilitate the normalization of goods transit through the country.
Meanwhile, the chargé d’affaires of the British Embassy for Afghanistan informed the Taliban’s Chamber of Commerce that steps are being taken to improve the Taliban’s relations with the international community.
This comes after approximately 9 billion dollars of Afghanistan’s assets were frozen in U.S. and European banks following the Taliban’s rise to power in Afghanistan. The release of these reserves is conditional on the Taliban’s compliance with international commitments.
