23rd Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: The Taliban Were Not Invited

Bayan News – Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the 23rd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, in three days.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 12, the ministry added that the meeting will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan also noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate and preside over the meeting.

The statement mentioned that the prime ministers of China, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, along with the First Vice President of Iran and the Foreign Minister of India, will participate as member states of the SCO.

Afghanistan, a member of this organization, has not invited the Taliban as the current rulers of the country to this meeting.

The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the Prime Minister of Mongolia will attend as an observer, and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet and the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan will participate as special guests.

It is expected that SCO members will discuss cooperation in areas such as economic, trade, environmental, cultural, and social issues during the Islamabad meeting.
