Russian Special Envoy: ISIS cells are still active in Afghanistan

Bayan News – Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special envoy for Afghanistan, recently stated that despite the Taliban’s suppression of ISIS, the group’s cells remain active in Afghanistan.

In an interview with the Arabic section of “RT” television, Kabulov said that the Taliban’s interim government has largely managed to curb ISIS activities, but the group continues to operate.

According to the Russian official, Moscow’s analysis shows that during the presence of the U.S. and NATO in Afghanistan, ISIS’s terrorist membership reached 12,000, but under the Taliban’s rule, this number has decreased to a few thousand.

The representative of Vladimir Putin added that ISIS members continue to promote their global jihad, which poses a direct threat to Russia.

He emphasized that the Taliban’s actions against ISIS have paved the way for joint cooperation in the fight against the group.

These remarks come as, in recent days, Taliban special forces have attacked and destroyed ISIS hideouts in several provinces of Afghanistan.

Additionally, Taliban interim government officials have recently stated that ISIS has relocated its centers from Afghanistan to Balochistan, Pakistan, from where it plans to organize attacks in that country.
