U.S. Presidential Electi;n: What Do the Latest Reports Say?
Bayan News – American media have reported on the end of voting across U.S. states, with election results already determined in several states.
According to Reuters, Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, has so far secured 211 electoral votes, while his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, has gained 153 electoral votes.
Candidates need 270 electoral votes to reach the White House.
As reported, in the U.S., the direct popular vote does not determine the president; instead, the president is elected through the “Electoral College” or “electoral vote” system. Each state has a designated number of electoral votes, roughly proportional to its population. There are a total of 538 electoral votes.
California, with 54 electoral votes, has the highest number. According to published reports, Kamala Harris has won in this state.
Reports indicate that if a candidate receives 50.1% of the vote in California, they secure all 54 electoral votes for that state. Even if the margin of victory is greater, the number of electoral votes remains 54.
It is also noted that a candidate could win the presidency by winning a few large states, even if they do not receive the majority of votes nationwide.
