Return of Over Two Million Afghan Migrants from Iran and Pakistan in One Year
Bayan News – The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has reported that in the past year, 2.2 million Afghan migrants have returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan.
According to a report released on Wednesday (November 13), citing the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), these migrants returned between August 15, 2023, and September 2024.
The report states that 734,817 Afghan migrants have returned from Pakistan.
USAID reported that of these, 588,000 returnees have received assistance.
Previously, the Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation also announced that over the past year, 2 million Afghan migrants returned from Iran and Pakistan, while approximately 7 million Afghans remain in foreign countries.
This comes amid a surge in deportations of Afghan migrants from Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey, with hundreds of migrant families being deported daily.
Recently, Iranian authorities warned that by the end of this solar year, around 2 million undocumented Afghan migrants would be expelled from the country.
