First Visit of High-Level Russian Delegation to Kabul; Russian Security Officials and Interim Government Hold Talks
Bayan News – The Ministry of Defense of the Taliban’s interim government announced that Mawlawi Yaqoob Mujahid, acting head of the ministry, met with a high-level Russian delegation led by Sergey Shoigu, Secretary General of the Security Council of Russia, at the Ministry of Defense headquarters.
The first high-level Russian delegation, headed by Sergey Shoigu, arrived in Kabul on Monday afternoon (November 25).
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense of the interim government, the meeting between the Minister of Defense and the Russian Security Council Secretary was attended by Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Zamir Kabulov, the Russian special envoy for Afghanistan, and the Russian ambassador in Kabul.
The statement noted that the Minister of Defense expressed gratitude to Moscow for its efforts to remove the Taliban’s name from the blacklist and strengthen bilateral relations.
Additionally, the Ministry of Defense announced that the high-level Russian delegation, led by Shoigu, praised the Taliban’s efforts in ensuring security and stability in Afghanistan.
The ministry further stated that officials from the interim government and Russia discussed and exchanged views on expanding cooperation in economic, trade, security, and other areas of mutual interest.
This marks the first visit of a high-level Russian delegation to Kabul since the Taliban assumed power in Afghanistan.
Recently, Moscow has intensified its efforts to have the Taliban’s name removed from the list of terrorist organizations.
Although Moscow has not officially recognized the interim government, it has strengthened its diplomatic ties and economic and political cooperation with the current regime in Afghanistan.
