U.S.: Assad Government’s Reliance on Iran and Russia Has Created Syria’s Current Situation

Bayan News – Amid advances by militias in Syria, the United States has stated that the Assad government’s dependence on the Islamic Republic of Iran and Russia has caused a new crisis in the country.

Sean South, spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council, said in a statement on Saturday (November 30) that the Assad government’s refusal to engage in a political process to resolve the crisis, coupled with its reliance on Russia and Iran, has led to the current situation in Syria.

He denied any U.S. involvement in the ongoing conflicts in Syria, stating: “The United States has no role in the current attacks in Syria, which are led by the terrorist organization Ahrar al-Sham.”

According to the statement, the United States, along with its allies and partners, is calling for de-escalation, the protection of civilians and minorities, and the pursuit of a credible political process to bring an end to the civil war in Syria.

The statement added that the U.S. is closely monitoring the current situation in Syria and has been in contact with regional countries over the past 48 hours regarding the developments.
