Austria Allocates Five Million Euros to Prevent Afghan Migration to Europe
Bayan News – Alexander Schallenberg, Austria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, referred to the Middle East crisis, stating that the world must not forget the people of Afghanistan.
Alongside this statement, he announced that Austria has allocated five million euros in aid for the Afghan people. According to Austria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this aid will be delivered through humanitarian organizations such as the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Red Cross.
The senior Austrian official said on Wednesday (December 4): “We must not forget the people of Afghanistan. Now is the time to act to prevent a humanitarian collapse and further migration toward Europe.”
It has also been reported that two million euros of Austria’s five-million-euro aid will go to the United Nations to support the protection of women and girls in Afghanistan. Another two million euros will be provided to UNHCR to prevent migration to Europe.
The remaining one million euros will be allocated to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
It is worth noting that, according to published reports, the Austrian government has provided over 50 million euros in aid to the Afghan people over the past seven years.
