Interim Government’s Foreign Minister and Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Inspect Progress on TAPI Project
Bayan News – Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of the Interim Government, and Rashid Meredov, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, inspected the progress of the TAPI project in Herat province.
On Monday, December 16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government released a statement announcing that the two sides discussed the TAPI project, the extension of the railway, fiber optic transmission, visa facilitation, and transportation.
The ministry also stated that the foreign ministers of the Interim Government and Turkmenistan emphasized the need to expedite the implementation of the TAPI project within Afghanistan.
TAPI is a joint initiative of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, and India, aimed at transporting gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India via Afghanistan.
This project was inaugurated seven years ago in Turkmenistan with a budget of $10 billion.
According to published reports, the project, which had been financed by the Asian Development Bank, saw its funding suspended following the Taliban’s rise to power.
In recent times, officials from the Interim Government and Turkmenistan have not commented on the financial backing of TAPI. However, it appears that the project is currently moving forward solely with financial and logistical investments from Turkmenistan.
