UN Experts Validate Allegations of Sexual Assault against Palestinian Women in Israeli Prisons
Bayan News – A group of United Nations experts has recently stated in a report that allegations of sexual assault against Palestinian women in Israeli prisons are credible.
According to international media reports, United Nations experts have received substantiated claims indicating that Palestinian women and girls have been subjected to sexual assault and mistreatment by Israeli soldiers in prisons.
Rima Salah, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, expressed concern that the actual graph of these violent acts in Israeli prisons may exceed these allegations. “We may not be able to determine the actual number of victims for a long time.”
However, the Special Rapporteur emphasized that due to fear of reprisals by Israeli soldiers, most victims do not come forward to disclose these acts of violence.
Salah further added to international media that violence and inhumane behavior towards Palestinian women, children, and non-combatants by Israeli soldiers have become a normal occurrence.
It is worth mentioning that during the period of conflict between Israel and Hamas, several reports of mistreatment by Israeli soldiers towards civilians, women, and children in Palestine have been published by the media, and in some cases, video footage of such mistreatment has been uploaded on internet platforms.
