The floods in Ghor and Faryab have claimed the lives of 134 people, and 20 others are still missing
Bayan News – OCHA, the UN’s coordinating office for humanitarian affairs, reported in its latest update that the floods in Ghor and Faryab provinces over the past week have been deadly.
This UN agency wrote on Sunday (May 26) on the X platform that in the floods on Friday and Saturday of last week, 84 people died in Faryab and 50 people in Ghor province.
OCHA also stated that around 20 other people in these two provinces are still missing.
The agency also stated that the heavy rains have affected the lives of thousands of families in Faryab and Ghor.
Disruption of life for 80,000 people in Afghanistan
Meanwhile, the World Food Programme (WFP) has also stated in a statement that the rainfall of the last month in Afghanistan has disrupted the lives of more than 80,000 people and has caused human and financial losses.
The agency added in a message that the floods have caused the most casualties in the provinces of Badakhshan, Baghlan and Ghor.
The World Food Programme emphasized that further floods have occurred in Afghanistan, which, in addition to the loss of life, have caused massive financial damage.
Concurrently, residents of Doshi district in Baghlan have recently reported that as a result of the floods in this district, at least two people have been killed and massive financial losses have been inflicted on the people.
According to them, as a result of the floods in the villages of this province, 110 residential houses, a school and a large mosque have been destroyed.
