UNAMA: We have told the Taliban that we will continue to support human rights

Bayan News – Rosa Autenbayeva, the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Kabul (UNAMA), says that the promotion and protection of human rights is the primary duty of the member states of the United Nations.

Autenbayeva made these remarks on Wednesday (August 21) on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism and the World Day for the Recognition of Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief.

The head of UNAMA said in this statement: “We commemorate these days with a special and great tribute to all Afghans who have lost their lives or loved ones in the conflicts of several decades, and we hope that this suffering will end with their full enjoyment of human rights.”

She also stated that through these international commemorations, the United Nations General Assembly has issued a clear call to strengthen dialogues and efforts to establish peace and recognize victims of terrorism as an essential part of peaceful and open societies.

According to Autenbayeva, it is the member states of the United Nations that have the primary responsibility to promote and protect human rights, including the human rights of individuals belonging to religious minorities, and this is the message that UNAMA continues to convey to the ruling authorities in Afghanistan.

On the other hand, the head of UNAMA issued a statement on human rights at a time when the Taliban have banned the entry of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights to Kabul.
