Imran Khan Sentenced to Three Years in Prison
Bayan News – A court in Islamabad, Pakistan, has sentenced Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of the country, to three years in prison and five years of political disqualification on charges of financial corruption.
According to Pakistani media reports, Khan was arrested this afternoon on Sunday (August 5) from his residence in Lahore, Pakistan.
The office of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has confirmed Khan’s arrest in a tweet.
Imran Khan is accused in a financial corruption case known as the “Toffee House.”
The former Prime Minister and his lawyers were absent from today’s court session, which was held at 8:30 Pakistan time, and the court issued this verdict in their absence.
Imran Khan was arrested approximately three months ago on charges of financial corruption but faced resistance from his supporters in various cities of Pakistan.
