Human Rights Watch: The global community must recognize that the struggle of Afghan women is a fight for women’s rights worldwide

Bayan News – Hyder Baar, Deputy Director of the Women’s Rights Division at Human Rights Watch, says that currently, women and girls in Afghanistan are not only fighting for their own rights but also for the rights of women and girls worldwide.

In an article published by George Town Magazine, Ms. Baar has called on the international community to stand alongside Afghan women and girls, as the fate of Afghan women determines the fate of women worldwide.

She further states that diplomatic relations between the world and the Taliban are strengthening and expanding while Afghan women are being severely restricted, losing their identity, education, dreams, and participation in Afghan society.

According to Ms. Baar, this interaction or diplomatic relations between the world and the Taliban is a cruel display that illustrates how unstable women’s and girls’ rights are anywhere.

While addressing this issue, the Deputy Director of the Women’s Rights Division at Human Rights Watch mentioned that in the coming days, a special meeting of representatives from countries on Afghanistan will be held in Doha, hosted by the United Nations.

However, the interim Taliban government considers women’s and girls’ issues as Afghanistan’s internal affairs and requests that countries and international organizations refrain from intervening in this matter.

Many human rights activists and defenders have called on the United Nations to invite Afghan women representatives to this meeting and amplify the voices of women and girls in the country.

It is still unclear whether women’s rights activists will be invited to this meeting or not.
