Haqqani: Girls’ Education is a Controversial Issue

Bayan News – Sarajuddin Haqqani, the acting Minister of Interior who recently traveled to Herat province, spoke to a gathering of scholars and influential individuals in the province about the issue of girls’ education and attending schools.

On Tuesday (July 25), he clearly stated that girls’ education is a controversial issue in the current government and more time is needed to resolve it.

Mr. Haqqani stated, “Reasonable solutions are being worked out for these issues. One big problem is that when an issue becomes controversial, it takes some time to prevent it from becoming even bigger.”

It has been more than 650 days that schools for girls above the sixth grade have been blocked.

The ban on girls’ education and blocking of girls’ schools has dealt a major blow to the spirit and psychology of Afghan girls and women.

This action by the Kabul caretaker government has led some families to migrate so that their daughters do not fall behind in education.

However, the acting Minister of Interior, during his trip to Herat, reminded the people to refrain from sectarian, linguistic, and political biases when discussing current issues in the country.
