UNAMA to Taliban: Arbitrary Arrests Must End

Bayan News – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has called on the caretaker government in Kabul to put an end to arbitrary arrests.

In a message issued by the organization’s office in Kabul on Thursday, January 3rd, it was added that the continued detention of Ahmad Fahim Azimi, Siddiqullah Afghan, defenders of girls’ education rights, and Manizha Sadiki, a human rights activist since October of last year, is concerning.

The UNAMA message states, “UNAMA calls for an end to arbitrary arrests. The rights to family contact, legal representation, care, and fair trial must be respected.”

However, the security forces of the caretaker government in Kabul recently released several women protesters, including Julia Parsi, Neda Parvani, and Parisa Azada, from detention.
