U.S. Responds to Sirajuddin Haqqani’s Travel to UAE
Bayan News – Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, in response to the visit of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s interior minister, to the United Arab Emirates, added that UN member states must comply with the UN sanctions against the Taliban.
The U.S. State Department spokesperson said on Wednesday (June 5) in a briefing: “I just want to reiterate that member countries hosting UN-sanctioned individuals are required to obtain travel permission through the exemption process as laid out by the UN 1988 Sanctions Committee, and it’s important that member states follow those procedures.”
Sirajuddin Haqqani visited the United Arab Emirates two days ago on his first foreign trip and met with the head of state of that country.
The spokesperson for the Taliban’s interim government said that Mr. Haqqani discussed in this trip the strengthening of bilateral relations, garnering UAE’s cooperation in the health and construction sectors of Afghanistan’s security institutions, the release of Afghan prisoners, visa issuance, and the digitalization of Afghanistan’s traffic system.
