Mujahid: UN Security Council Meeting Without Representation from the Interim Government Will Benefit No One

Bayan News – Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Interim Government, has stated that meetings and decisions of the United Nations Security Council will be ineffective without representation from their government.

Mujahid made these remarks as the UN Security Council is set to hold a meeting on Afghanistan this Thursday evening, December 12, Kabul time.

In an audio message, the spokesperson of the Interim Government said that the current Kabul administration and the Afghan people have the right to ensure that the UN does not occupy Afghanistan’s seat without legitimate representation.

He added: “The fact that the seat was not handed over to the Afghans, and no representative of the current system was present there, will undoubtedly create ambiguities, and sufficient information will not be provided.”

Mujahid emphasized that Security Council decisions cannot be considered beneficial to the Afghan people and argued that this is unjust. He further asserted that decisions made by the Security Council without the presence of a representative from the Interim Government will be biased and serve no one’s interests.

The Taliban official stressed that for the government’s representative to participate in such meetings, the seat must be assigned to Afghans. He said this would help eliminate ambiguities and ensure that any decisions regarding Afghanistan are made transparently and clearly.
