UNAMA: Deeply Concerned about Arbitrary Detention of Women Activists in Afghanistan
Bayan News – The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) states that since September 19th, several women’s rights activists have been detained by the Islamic Emirate forces.
The organization added in a statement on Friday afternoon (December 7th): “We have serious concerns about the impact of prolonged and arbitrary detentions.”
UNAMA has called on the authorities of the Kabul interim government to ensure the rights to healthcare, family visits, and legal representation, protection, and respect.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan emphasized in the message that freedom of thought and expression should be supported in accordance with international human rights commitments.
Earlier, Islamic Emirate officials had stated that some women had been detained to prevent external conspiracies and maintain public security.
However, in recent months, Manizha Sediqi, Julia Parsi, and Parisa Azada have been detained by the Islamic Emirate forces in Kabul.
