Deadly explosion in the city of Kerman, Iran; Over 100 deaths and 200 injuries reported

Bayan News – On Thursday afternoon (January 3rd), two deadly explosions occurred during the commemoration ceremony of the fourth anniversary of the death of Qasim Soleimani, the former commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, in the city of Kerman. As a result of these explosions, 103 people have lost their lives and nearly 200 others have been injured.

According to Fars News Agency, Ahmad Vahidi, Iran’s Minister of Interior, stated in a press conference that the first explosion happened around 3:00 PM, and 20 minutes later, another explosion occurred when people were gathering to transfer the wounded.

The Minister of Interior added, “After the incident, the injured were transported to hospitals with the presence of relief workers.”

According to Vahidi, this new plot and the incident that took place in Kerman will have a decisive response from security and military forces. He further stated, “Those who planned to carry out this act were arrested by security and intelligence forces.”

The responsibility for this event has not been claimed by any group so far.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, while condemning the incident, referred to it as a terrorist act and stated that terrorists have committed a heinous and inhumane crime.

In the message of the Iranian President, it is stated, “The enemies of the nation should know that such actions can never undermine the firm determination and iron will of the Iranian people in defending Islamic principles.”

The Iranian government has declared a day of national mourning in response to the incident.
